Many School Children Seek Work Papers
Employment certificates issued in New York for youths ages 14 to 17 surged in 1953, rising over 150 percent from 1947 figures. Miss Shotwell of the Children’s Bureau warned employers to verify ages under the Fair Labor Standards Act and to limit work to outside school hours, with a 40 hour weekly maximum and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. restrictions, noting exemptions for parental and agricultural work and stressing protection against hazardous tasks. Also reports Pvt Donald F. Brown and Pvt Joseph P. Perras were wounded in the Mediterranean area.
