Filipino Girl Fights Japanese Snipers Behind Allied Lines
A young Filipino girl named Marita Martin carried up mountains for two years to aid American troops in the Sierra Madre. She ferried 65 pound loads of rations and ammunition, fought two Japanese snipers with a Garand rifle and a Tommy gun, and earned pay equivalent to twelve cents daily. She recalls escaping from captivity after resisting advances. Her father supported her guerrilla work, and she remains steadfast in battle against the enemy.
