Canaller Notes 50th Year On Calm Sea Of Matrimony
A Waterford couple celebrat es their 50th wedding anniversary after meeting in 1911 in Waterford during Erie Canal construction. John Z. Coffey officiated their 1917 marriage at St Marys Church. Mrs Gibbons, Katherine Powers of Waterford, and Mr Gibbons retired in 1958 as a captain with Cornell Steam Boat Co. He started on boats at three months old and later worked for Pennsylvania coal boats. The couple, active in Waterford and Holy Name Society, have 27 nieces and nephews and were honored with a reception at Scot-Mar Restaurant.
