Rent Levels Rise With Decontrol in U S Cities
An Associated Press survey shows rent increases of up to 100 percent in areas that scrapped ceilings under the federal rent act signed March 29. Nebraska plans full decontrol by Nov 1, with Omaha tenants facing higher rents. Some owners use big raises to push out tenants while others aim for moderation. Chairman Woods ordered decontrol in 100 rent zones, but Florida and Americus faced reversals with mixed results and binding ceilings in effect.
