Hiss Trial Highlights in 1948 Document Claims
The testimony centers on deposits that Alger Hiss allegedly turned over departmental papers to Whittaker Chambers. Chambers recounts joining the Communist party and working for the Daily Worker. The judge cautions the trial focuses on perjury, not espionage, as prosecutors outline 65 typewritten sheets of 47 documents from early 1948.
