Dewey Photo Won’t Hang in Chicago Service Center
Chicago Mayor Edward J. Kelly and the city service center class refused a Dewey photograph for display beside a Roosevelt portrait during the presidential campaign. Center director Daniel L. Flaherty said the gift from Georgie W. Fisher will be kept in a safe place, while Kelly asserted no political displays will be hung in the center. Roosevelt’s 56 square foot portrait remains on display as commander in chief. Irene Smith of this city will share in her mother Maude Smith’s estate worth 3,600, with siblings Marion, Lucille Smith, Alice Knapp, and Everett Smith listed as heirs.
