Edith Belle Mainwaring, a U.S. welfare worker, led support for Glasgow’s first Merchant Seamen’s Club. She organized meals, shelter, bandages, and a homey environment for seamen in port, arguing they needed a dedicated space separate from armed forces services. Her year in Glasgow followed service in New York’s OSBS division.
