300 Report For Swim Class Work

The rain threat dampened attendance at Eyospeet Park pool for the 22nd annual Learn-a-Swim campaign drawing nearly 500 youths. Morning classes totaled 482 with 156 in the 9:30 class, 133 in the 10:15 class, and others in mixed, advanced, junior and senior groups. Participants achieved their second skill, rhythmic breathing, essential to proper swimming form.

Learn to Swim Class Demonstrates Correct Techniques

Troy Recreation Department and the Necord Newspapers sponsor a Learn-to-Swim program with supervision from lifeguards. Mary Ellen Finten, alumna, and Mark Fagen hor lead demonstrations while youngsters are instructed in pulling out the wrong way and the right way. Demonstrators include numerous named students across multiple classes.

Gackenhenner Funeral Held After Service at Church

Funeral services were held yesterday from the John T L Clinton Funeral Home for Pred Gackenhenner a former saonymin for Whelan's Dry Ginger Ale Ka and guard at the Congress Street Bridge. A Solemn Requiem High Mass was celebrated at St Mary's Church with Rev Edward Ryan and Rev Daniel Markham. Miss Agnes C Sheeran was organist and Miss Margaret M Markham soloist. Interment followed at St Mary's Cemetery with bearers William Mitchell Joseph F French William Donovan and others. Delegations from Sisters of Mercy Albany Niagara Mohawk Power Corp and local associations attended the service.

Mountell Patrolman and Horse Incident Near Kichmoml

Mountell Patrolman William Re Blaylock collided with his horse Toll of Ian Maylock after a slip on a dry spot near Kichmoml Virginia. Blaylock and horse fell. Blaylock shouted as the horse ran toward a car, causing confusion in the scene.

Swim Classes Open Monday At Johnsonville

The Johaganyile Branch of the Red Cross will sponsor a series of learn-to-swim classes starting Monday through July 25 from 10 am to noon at Pine Like Beach. Instructor Paul A. Graham of Hentsolper County Chapter, Red Cross, with facilities provided by Mr and Mrs Werner Siehels. Residents over six years old are eligible, and all children must have written parental permission to attend.

County Road Employe Suffers Burns

Lewis Wager a 43 year old Highway Department worker was seriously burned at Nagsad while operating an asphalt paving machine. He was freed by fellow workers after his clothing caught fire and sustained first and second degree burns to his face chest limbs. Cause of fire undetermined and machine wrecked. He received treatment at Albany Hospital.
