Attorneys Seek Pay Rise for Cohoes Police and Firemen
William J. Ryan, attorney for the Cohoes Police Benevolent Association and Cohoes Firemen’s Association, filed petitions with about 3900 names endorsing a substantial pay raise. City Clerk Miss Irene C. Rivet has 30 days to review signatures and remove invalid ones. 800 were struck as ineligible. If valid, the council must act within 60 days or the measure goes to a fall referendum if no action is taken. Ryan and PBA president Donal Ryan express confidence, hoping council passage to avoid the election.
