Patrolman Maguire Builds a Smallbut Grand Antique Gun Collection
Patrolman Thomas G Maguire of Central Station maintains a growing hobby of collecting old firearms. Since 10 years ago he began with a rusted muzzle loading pistol and has since assembled about 35 weapons, all in first class working order. The trooper’s finds include a Wells Fargo revolver from 1848, a Smith and Wesson 1858, a Remington 1857, a Dragoon by Walker, and a 44 caliber Kentucky muzzle-loader with a five foot barrel, plus a unique French 25 caliber three-shot weapon. He catalogs each item with identification booklets and notes the varied histories as he studies the guns’ origins. The collection reflects his long hours off duty and his commitment to preserving these pieces from American frontier days.
