July 8 Deadline Set For Soil Plan In Saratoga
John Lane, chairman of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation County Committee, urged Saratoga County farmers to contact the ASC office in Saratoga Springs before July 8 if interested in a conservation practice under the program. He warned against spreading lime now, noting it can harm sod and soil acidity, and highlighted that open drainage ditches and underground drainage systems are eligible for cost sharing. Lane described the program as a government farmer partnership to promote soil and water conservation, with Soil Conservation Service technicians, New York State Conservation Dept., and Extension Service agents available for soil testing and lime recommendations. The ASC office at 7 Church Street, Saratoga Springs, remains the contact point.
