Peer Gynt at Williamstown Divides Critics on Heart
Howard Healy reviews Williamstown Summer Theater's Peer Gynt, praising staging and performances by Robert Symonds and others, while arguing the play is a magnificent failure of Ibsen and lacking a cohesive heart, despite strong artistry and memorable scenes. He notes the production’s horror and village contrasts and contrasts it with Marat/Sade’s sellout success.
