Postwar Peak Reached at RPI Graduation
President Livingston W. Houston of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute said the postwar peak in veteran enrollment may be temporary and could rise again with future waves of students. At the 140th commencement, 283 degrees were conferred, over 75 percent to veterans, with 72 married. He warned that the coming “war babies” will enter college in a decade, while industry plans and rising engineering demand may expand enrollment beyond wartime levels.
