Cohoes Faces High County Tax Rate in 1944 Demand

Cohoes residents will pay one of the citys highest county tax rates in history as the Albany County Board of Supervisors reports a 1944 rate of 1635 per thousand assessed value, up from 1027 in 1943, amid declining local valuations and looming city salary pressures. The city tax rate also rises, pushing the burden toward nearly 60 dollars per thousand for residents, with city and county budgets under review and a public hearing planned. The county notes a wartime value drop of 151,102 from 1943, with total valuations falling to 17,916,765 for 1944 from 18,067,867. Campaigns for infantile paralysis funds continue, with receipts timing expected midweek and some money remaining for local treatment.
