Big Appropriation Bill Approved By House Panel

The House Appropriations Committee approved an 8.5 billion dollar measure for federal operations in fiscal 1945, trimming 23.5 million from initial estimates and notably cutting the FCC radio intelligence division by 1 million. The panel cites shifting functions to War and Navy Departments and cites two war items driving overall total to 5.63 billion above 1944. It notes increased requirements for the Maritime Commission shipbuilding program and the Veterans Administration as it readies for veterans' return. Local notices report community visits and family movements, with social events and a dance sponsored by the Satem Chamber of Commerce.
