Two Lightweight Title Bout At MSG Ends In Non Title Bout

The New York bout at Madison Square Garden pits Swarmin Sammy Angol against Beau the Jumping Jack in a ten round non title clash. Neither champion will be hurt by a loss as the fight is more exhibition than title fight. The event is priced at about 11.50 per ticket with a potential 50 000 to 60 000 gate, a fact critics call a gimmick amid wartime talent shortages and disputed title legitimacy. The piece questions who approved such a match and blames the State Athletic Commission for the decision.
