Jury Finds Hiss Guilty Of Perjury
In New York a federal court jury of eight women and four men found Alger Hiss guilty on both counts of perjury. The panel, after re reading the judge's instructions on reasonable doubt and corroborative evidence, delivered a verdict indicating Hiss lied about stealing State Department secrets and about seeing Chambers after 1937. The case centers on whether Hiss delivered documents to Chambers in 1938 for a Communist spy ring.
