An NLRB examiner ruled the union shop provision in a contract between Soft coal operators and United Mine Workers illegal. The one year agreement made last July was challenged by U S Steel and other steel interests with captive mines. A brief strike over the provision halted steel company mines until a court review could be held.
C A Scharschu longtime Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp research director is named assistant technical director by F B Lounsberry. Dr L C Hicks will fill Scharschu’s former post. Scharschu, Kingston New Jersey native and Cornell graduate, joined Allegheny Ludlum in 1929. Hicks, MIT trained and Dover Colorado native, has worked in the firm’s research department since 1933.
Cipperly was reelected president of the Rensselaer County Mutual Fire Insurance Co of Sand Lake at the 71st annual meeting Tuesday afternoon at the company office. John Schumann was reelected vice president Cheater A Nash secretary treasurer and Miss Gladys Brad assistant secretary. Directors named for three years were Nash Walter E Link Avery G Hall and David L White. Charles Burroughs renamed general agent and Philip B Pierce named assistant agent Raymond Miller Elmer J Hogle and Albert K Johnson elected inspectors of election for one year.
Troy Council Kansas City opens its jelubrooms to city children for the eighth and final showing of the K C Frolics at 2 30 p m Sunday. Only nine children can be accommodated in the hall. James J Fox grand knight announces the first to arrive will be admitted. Ice cream and candy will be served, and more than 75 troopers will help entertain the children. This is the first time such a party and presentation of the Frolics has been offered by the council. The council has already given holiday season shows.

James T Marsh, longtime local craftsperson and yacht enthusiast, died at Leonard Hospital after a long illness. He belonged to St Augustine’s Church and is survived by a son, a daughter, a granddaughter, and four sisters.
