Drum Urges Men to Join State Guard
Lieut. Gen. Hugh A Drum leader of the New York State Guard urges 12 000 men aged 37 to 65 to sign up as replacements for drafted youths and others sidelined by war. He stresses the Guard must maintain minimum strength for internal security and emergencies as federal forces go overseas and army units prepare for similar missions. Maj. Paul C Raborg notes difficulty keeping strength due to draft and older discharges. New York State needs 6 000 to 8 000 more Guardsmen to deter federal troop deployment.
