State Asked To Reduce Racing Tax
Albany reports a senator proposes lowering racing taxes to boost betting volume. The plan would reduce state levies on metropolitan tracks from 8 to 4 percent and Saratoga from 6 to 4 percent, cut city and county surtaxes, and trim the overall tax on pari mutuel wagering from 15 to 10 percent. London argues lower taxes would expand betting, countering expected revenue declines. The 1945 rise in local levies is cited as a factor in reduced New York City and Nassau and Saratoga County income. officials note a $2 million drop from 1945 fat tree betting.
