Settlement blocks Japan reparations and industry
The Far Eastern Commission said most Japan questions are settled except reparations and industrial capacity. Communist gains in the Far East hinder Japan’s ability to expand foreign trade and obtain raw materials, complicating how much industry Japan must retain to be economically self supporting. Officials expect these issues to be settled within the year. otherwise the U S may direct General MacArthur to decide.
