Ryan Case Settled I By Payment
A civil action in Supreme Court for Ronnselaer County against Frank W. Ostwald over the death of Robert Ryan on December 28, 1945, was settled for eight thousand dollars by Mary Ryan mother of the deceased. Ostwald had been tried and convicted in County Court but the sentence was vacated when a juror was not a citizen. The indictment was dismissed on grounds Ostwald could not be tried again. The insurance company paid 5,000 and Ostwald contributed 1,600. The action by Mrs. Ryan for damages remains separate. Proceedings continue with appeals in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.
