Kennedy Letters Of Sympathy To Crewman Widow Sell
Four letters John Kennedy wrote to the widow of PT-109 crewman Jack Kirksey were sold for 9500 dollars. The letters, bought by David Kirshenbaum, recount Kennedy’s sympathy and support after Kirksey’s death in August 1943 near New Georgia. Kennedy describes Kirksey as brave and devoted, and offers help for the widow and her son. A second letter dated October 1943 expresses Kennedy’s deepest sympathy and notes efforts to settle Navy affairs.
