Peace Talks Hopes Rise as Chinese Leaders Move

Hopes for peace talks in China grew after Li Taling Jen's transfer of presidential powers. A North China trip boosted ties with Nationalists and Communists as Shao Li and Yen met with top leaders in Shukinckhuwang. Reports say Mao and Zhou Enlai likely would head any Red peace delegation, with Chou in principle open to restoring communications before formal talks. Li traveled south to urge Sun Fo and the refugee cabinet to consider Nanking as the site, preserving the Nationalist shell until negotiations begin.
