State Aid To Community Centers Urged
Albany Pi A Manhattan Republican assemblyman asked the Legislature to provide 4 900 000 for state aid to community centers for child care and adult recreation. Samuel Roman proposed a five member commission to supervise centers with authority to charge fees for use of facilities. The state would pay half the cost of setting up and operating the centers, with the other half from the communities served. Adult facilities would aid the aged who face lonely lives, and unused evening centers could be opened to elderly residents. The commission would include the state health, education and social welfare commissioners and two gubernatorial appointees.
