NY Canoe Racing Association sanctions river race and derby.
Clifton Park, NY. General manager John F. MacDonald says the Clifton Country Mall will open March 11 with Carl Co. and Denby's as definite tenants and negotiations ongoing with at least three other chains for the 90000 square foot space once occupied by W. T. Grant Co. The mall, off Route 146 near exit 10 of the Northway, expects to employ about 700 people, and the opening was delayed by Grant’s bankruptcy filing.
Seven Sunday recitals at Calvary Episcopal Church Burnt Hills begin 3 p.m. for organ fund support with guests such as Judith Nicosia and Dana Robinson between Feb and May. A reception follows each recital. Country Knolls Women host a May 13 Birthday Party at Americana Inn with fashions by Flairs and a trunk of bicentennial surprises. A Dime-O-Dip supper is planned for March 11, skiing to Jim Ingl Peak, and various clubs hold meetings and craft, baking, and cookbook projects to benefit scholarships and the Round Lake Fire Department. Reservations and calls are requested for events and club activities.
Clifton Park volunteers are urged to join the Shenendehowa Pre school PTA and Lions Club for a third annual vision and hearing screening drive for kindergarten entrants. March 2 3 at Shenendehowa United Methodist Church offers three hour sessions. training Feb 25 26 with Dr. Jeffrey Kramer supervising. More than 400 children screened yearly with amblyopia referrals.
Stillwater Home School Association heard Curtis R. Bristol discuss enrollment and grouping methods at Stillwater Central School. Board members and principals outlined current reporting practices and a new report card debut planned for fall to show ability and progress. Get Acquainted Night announced for March 8. King Solomon’s Lodge meets Thursday with square dancing to follow.

Mechanicville City Council urged the New York State American Revolution Bicentennial Commission to schedule a stop for the Bicentennial Barge in Mechanicville. The panel cited a suitable facility and regional participation plans, noting area Revolutionary War events and Saratoga County's Outstanding Bicentennial County status. No local stops are currently on the barge schedule. Fort Edward Hudson Falls is listed as the nearby stop.
Semi finals of the 38th Annual American Legion Oratorical Contest will be held Friday at 8 p.m. in Rensselaer high school with four winners from 18 counties. The Friday winner advances to the state finals in Waterloo on March 13. About 84 Legion Posts will send representatives including two Rensselaer posts Fort Craile 471 and Gerald O'Neil 1683. Chairman is J. Donald Leahey.
