US Canadian relations show strain over economics and policy
Canadians clash with the United States over Vietnam and strategic issues while debating foreign ownership in Canadian industry. The Mercantile Bank of Montreal sparks a nationalist backlash as Ottawa moves to limit expansion unless 75 percent is sold to Canadians. The Gordon task force is created to study foreign ownership effects amid criticism of U S policy and fears of retaliation. The debate blends serious policy with light moments, including questions about a Playboy Club venture in Montreal.

Water Levels of Great Lakes Stay Above Average
Detroit reports that Great Lakes water levels are higher than the 10 year average and likely to remain so for at least six months. Experts from the U S Army Corps of Engineers forecast 1967 levels to be similar or a bit higher than 1966 with spring rises, peaking in June or July and then receding. Lake Ontario is about nine inches above its 10 year average and is forecast to reach its 1860 1966 average by July 1. All lakes are expected to top the so called low water datum by a foot or two, though none will reach that benchmark evenly.
