Oil Industries Launch Fight On Gas Tax Proposal

The New York Petroleum Industries Committee opposes a one cent gasoline tax rise. In Rensselaer and Albany counties about 3.0 million motor vehicles would be affected, including 26,484 passenger cars in Rensselaer and 60,005 in Albany plus 6,182 commercial vehicles, 130 buses, and 1,268 trailers in Rensselaer. The group warns the rise would add about 20 million dollars annually to highway transport costs and surpass taxes in neighboring states.
