Eiffel Tower Aids War Efforts Then Serves as Public Landmark
The Eiffel Tower 984 feet tall has played a key role in wars and communications. Maj. Gen. Ingles notes American French forces used top radio gear after Paris liberation for quick links to ports and England. Today it hosts a TV industry center, weather and radio services, and thousands of visitors annually. It was completed in 1882 and earned about 366000 dollars last year with elevators costing 26 cents a ride.
