Dartmouth College will lower grades when exam answers are marred by faulty composition and grammar. The college cites business world complaints about students lacking proper language command as the rationale for this policy.
The Rensselaer County Board of Health plans a special meeting at 8 p.m. at the Health Center to decide whether Pawling Sanitarium should continue locally or close and transfer patients to state tuberculosis facilities. The county budget this year allocates about 272 905 dollars for Pawling operations and per patient daily costs run just over 10 dollars.
St. Jude's parishioners plan the annual horse show to be held May 21 and 22 after a postponement due to weather last year. J Mulvey leads the planning session with Rev Thomas P Tooher presiding, and committees will be formed at a meeting in the school cafeteria. Refreshments will be served.

Severino Bucci, 44, of Rotterdam Set, fell about 25 feet from a cliff while hunting and crawled a mile through snow for three hours to reach the Thruway. A passing motorist aided him to St Marys Hospital Amsterdam, where he was treated for fractures in both heels. He clutched a shotgun during the fall but it did not discharge. He briefly lost consciousness and remained conscious after regaining awareness.
State senators and assembly members introduced bills including an exemption from license tags for hatters with hunting licenses, raising maximum loans by savings and loan associations, extending loan terms, banning sale of arrow heads to minors, and declaring March 17 a legal holiday in New York.
Harriman warned that probes require a $125,000 rise in Shapiro’s office budget to properly investigate. He said lawmakers were stunned by Marriman’s tax hike plans including 11 percent income tax, 33 percent unincorporated tax, 9 percent corporate tax, and new fuel levies.
