Negro May Be Appointed To U S Bench
The likely appointment of Vernon C. Riddick to a U S federal judgeship is reported with support from New York Democratic leaders. Riddick, a Howard University graduate and former assistant attorney general, would be joined on the potential panel by three other Negro nominees, including James W. Johnson and two judges. The vacancy arose after Judge Samuel Mandelbaum’s death last November in southern New York.
