Van Buskirk Says Taxes Will Increase Next Season
Mayor James E. McDonald’s office released a statement that taxes must rise as city departments begin filing budgets for the upcoming year. Executive secretary Paul G. Van Buskirk said the levy will likely rise to cover police and fire salaries and full retirement benefits for city workers. Bond payments will decline, and lower assessed values for seniors and city property takeovers will further affect totals.
