A minor explosion at the Kaolla Atomic Power laboratory near Achentctady injured two research assistants. Rescue teams arrived and transported the men to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators secured the scene and began a routine inquiry into the incident.

Jo h Denters, 41, was sentenced to six months in the House of Correction after throwing a butcher knife at his six year old son on Christmas Day in Pittsfield Massachusetts. The incident occurred after the family returned from church and followed a drinking spree. The knife embedded in the kitchen door before another struck the boy in the ear, injuring him. The mother testified to the events and Denters was found drunk at the time of the offense.
Judge Francis Bergan took the oath for a new four year term in a ceremony at Kingston with his wife and young son watching. Justice Harry E. Shirick administered the oath at Jedze Shinick's home and at Kingston Hospital where Shinick was a patient.

Joseph R. Mitchell receives promotion to divisional trainmaster of the Mohawk and Hudson Division. Effective January 1, he will base in Albany while continuing as general yardmaster at Selkirk, a post held since 1924 with wartime exceptions. He succeeds B. D. Johnson, ten-year holder now appointed trainmaster of the Adirondack and St. Lawrence Division based in Richland.
Mrs Mildred Keeler of 2267 Seventh Avenue was arraigned in Troy Police Court yesterday on a charge of violating Penal Law Sec 20 for turning off heat in a room she rented with heat provided. The complainants in the case testified.
