Veterans May Receive Army Certificate
Discharged veterans may obtain an Army certificate bearing the presidential seal upon presenting an honorable discharge at the recruiting station. The certificate, endorsed by President Harry Truman, will be available at posts and stations nationwide. The Coast Guard, resuming peacetime duties, will patrol coasts, aid ships in distress, and maintain navigation and rescue operations through winter. The wartime peak strength was 172000, including SPARS, but by Nee 18 the force had fallen to about 100000 due to demobilization, with many small outlets closed and some Coast Guard duties absorbed by the Navy.
