Skiba Again Heads Polish Club Staff

The Polish American Club recently held its annual election of officers at the club rooms. Matthew Skiba was reappointed to a fifth term as president. Other officers elected include Alex Kasper as vice president Stephen Washock as financial secretary Michael Galuski as recording secretary Karl Niesvite as treasurer John Washock as sergeant at arms John Witskowksi as chaplain Hall chairman was Matthew Kupic with Benjamin Huskier and Robert Washock as auditors. Installations planned for Sunday January 1 1939 with the installing officer to be announced. Charles W Danieliewski oversaw nominations and elections and Robert Washock served as secretary.

Reelected five year terms were Robert E. Gray Lewis Jowland Willard E. VanDerzee and Edwin J. C. Evans. Derrick A. Filley joined the Board for a five year term. R. Oakley Kennedy longtime director was elected honorary lifetime director along with Chester Wood who has served 34 years. Louis A. Kemp, a Fairview Home board member, died last week in a note of tribute.

Salvi Case Argument Postponed On Zoning Variance

The Salvi case to obtain a variance to build a gas station on Brunswick road was postponed to next month by order issued at a special term of the Supreme Court. The order, returnable today, directs the Troy Board of Zoning Appeals to show cause why the variance should not be granted. Attorneys for Salvi are Murray and Jubie.

J B Bestle City DPW Worker Dies in Heart Attack

John B Bestle 40 of 4 Legals Ave a longtime Democratic committeeman from Lath Ward and former standout in baseball and football died of a coronary after feeling ill at home then collapsing. Coroner ruled death due to coronary after autopsy. He worked for the DPW as clerk and telephone operator and belonged to Brownie A C Troy Council Knights of Columbus and 434th Ward Democratic Club. He attended St Patrick's Church.

Recreation Post List Established

The Municipal Civil Service Commission announced an eligibility list for the Tray Recreation Department superintendent post based on last October’s test. Three names appear: George J. Ray, Thomas Mtaflerly, and William L. Carley, with veteran credits noted. The list, compiled after seven applicants, will be turned over to the Recreation Commission for selection to fill the $4.90 post vacated when Edward A. Wachter retired, and is valid for two years.
