RPI students and faculty explored a potential honor system at an institute meeting. Stevens Institute of Technology and Washington H. A. Johnston were cited as models as plans for an honor board and freshman-start approach were discussed with broad student support.

Pope Names Two U S Archbishops in Historic Appointments

Pope John XXIII named John F. Dearden of Pittsburgh as Archbishop of Detroit and William E. Cousins of Peoria as Archbishop of Milwaukee. Dearden, 41, succeeds the late Cardinal Mooney in Detroit. Cousins, 58, succeeds Albert Meyer in Milwaukee.

Milk Output in 1958 Falls Short of Record

Washington reports that 1958 milk production will be slightly below the record 126.4 billion pounds set in 1957. Despite favorable feed and pasture conditions and milk-feed price relations, higher meat prices reduced dairy herds and accelerated farmer exits from dairying. Dairy cow numbers were down 3.5 percent from 1957.

Higher Oil Demand Seen in United States in 1959

Oil men forecast U S petroleum demand to rise 4 to 5 percent in 1959, then level off near 3 percent as industrial activity and vehicle use grow. Domestic demand rose 2 percent in 1958, while foreign demand could triple U S growth, with optimism tempered by tax and anti trust concerns and potential shifts in import policy.
