Ahern to Host New Year Reception in Hendrick Hudson Crystal Ballroom
Mayor-elect John J. Ahern plans a 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. New Year’s Day reception for Republican officials at The Crystal Ballroom in The Hendrick Hudson, due to City Hall congestion at the temporary fire station headquarters. The event marks a return to a prewar custom, with Assemblyman-elect John Finch, Dist. Atty. Earle J. Wiley, Thomas H. Brown, and county Republicans present, plus GOP supervisors and aldermen. The gathering includes light fare and auxiliary plans, reflecting a shift from wartime practices. Officials say the reception will be the first Republican mayoral welcome since 1925. Also noted, Catholic Women’s Service League members will attend Mrs. Hooley’s funeral at St. Mary’s Church.
