Club hears Christmas Thoughts at St Pauls Literary Guild dinner

Thomas O Seeley, Schenectady advertising executive, spoke on Thoughts for Christmas at the St. Pauls Literary Guild Christmas party dinner at Fantazizzis Restaurant Mechanicville. Marion Rogers chaired arrangements, decorations by Mrs Stanley Turner, followed by a social hour and the address.

Michael Camarota Elected Chief of Fire Department

Michael Camarota was elected chief of the Mechanicville Fire Department for a two year term at the annual meeting. He succeeds Hugh Hipwell and will assume duties January 1. He is a longtime member of E. H. Strang Hose Co and has been a fireman since 1954. The roster named Joseph Murphy first assistant and Arthur Wills second assistant for two year terms. Chaplains Rev J Gwen Barry and Rev Leonard H Bass were named. Dr John Vinett of Stillwater was elected department surgeon. The 54 alarms recorded included five false. the meeting was held at the Strang firehouse.

Mechanicville Women’s City League Bowlers Lead Field

Mrs. Kay Phillips posted a high single of 192 and led with a 541 triple while Mrs. Lucille LaBelle had the best triple at 553 and a runnerup single of 187. Other notable scores came from Mrs. Mary Alonzo 465 Mrs. Joan Carola 180 464 and Mrs. Marie Marsh 464. Team winners were Mamas and Papas Beatles Sun Downers. Hermits won two from the Turtles.

St Pauls Mechanicville eighth graders beat St Columba Schenectady 45 22 for their second win in the area CYO Parish School Basketball League The 7th graders also beat St Columba 45 6 to move to 1 1 and both groups prepare for games against St Clement’s at the Spa coached by Kerls and Salisbury.

Victor man killed in Route 96 crash near bridge

Albert E. Zalis, 24, of Victor New York, was killed early yesterday when his sports car left Route 96 and struck a concrete bridge abutment about one mile east of Victor. The crash occurred in Canandaigua area and the accident is under investigation by local authorities.

Rescue Squad Answers Call For Wrestler Rescue

Three emergency calls were answered Thursday by the Ahearn Rescue Squad in Mechanicville. Lansingburgh High School athlete Larry Mullins suffered an elbow dislocation in a scholastic wrestling match and was transported to Leonard Hospital in Troy. Amanda Nelson of 29 Washington Ave Pruney Hill was taken ill and moved to Leonard Hospital for treatment. Andrew Grozzo of 10 Penrose Ave was taken ill at the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Rites Conducted For Q J Adams

Funeral services for Quincy J. Adams of RD 2 Mechanicville, a World War I veteran, were held at T L Cassidy Funeral Home and St Pauls Church. Rev Owen Barry celebrated the Mass with deacon Rev Ernest J Rutch and subdeacon Rev Timothy F Keating. Burial at St Pauls Cemetery included military rites by the New York National Guard. The flag was presented to Mrs Adams.

Stone and Erdos win rubber bridge title in 1966

Tobias Stone of New York and Ivan Erdos of Los Angeles won the rubber bridge championship in 1966. The fall death of Ivan led Stone to defend with Philip Felderman. In the quarter finals Stone showcased rubber techniques, including a bold four spades over several bids, pursuing an overtrick to clinch the match.

OES Plans Annual Meeting Thursday

Star of Liberty Chapter OES will hold its annual meeting at the Mechanicville Masonic Temple at 8 p.m. Thursday. The business session will precede the chapter’s Christmas party with a grab bag gift exchange for $1 gifts. Mrs. Vivian Beck will preside, and refreshments will be served by Mrs. Ruth Aldrich and her committee.
