The War Labor Board warned against a growing strike pattern affecting Pennsylvania Power & Light Co plants at Lansford and Pine Grove. Public member Morse said the board will not judge merits while the stoppage continues and urged Roosevelt to act to stop a precedent of using strikes to gain concessions. Patton Tours Middle East as Balkans Invasion Rumors Rise
Lieut Gen George S Patton toured strategic Middle East zones in Cairo as guest of Gen Sir Henry Maitland Wilson. The visit fueled speculation of a possible southern European drive, while Zurich dispatches claimed Germany was rushing 40000 troops to the Balkans and diverting materiel from Russia and Italy. Turkey’s role and Cairo Teheran talks shaped uneasy expectations about future Balkan operations.
