Son Wounded Not Dead, Mother Told
Mrs. George E. Morey of 19 West Street Green Island received two telegrams from the War Department last week. The first said her son Pvt Herman D Green was killed in action in Italy. The second tele gram said the first was a mistake and he was only slightly wounded. Her stepson James Morey in the West Indies reportedly lost a finger in an electric slicing machine. Herman was born in Troy and attended St Joseph's School. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked at the Watervliet Arsenal before enlisting in 1949.

Teheran Declarations Outshine Goebbels Propaganda
The Teheran declarations remove unconditional surrender as a demand, boosting German hopes for democracy and uniting Allied plans to crush Nazi tyranny. They rally underground resistance, promote a democratic postwar world, and counter Nazi claims that Europe will be divided among the Allies. Goebbels' regime looks misguided as the two texts spread through Allied information channels.
