William Mesick, 33, of Spencertown died from burns and head injuries after a one vehicle crash on Route 203 in Austerlitz. His car left the road at 8 20 p m struck a utility pole and wires fell on the vehicle. he was dead at the scene as police and Spencertown fire crews arrived. Coroner Carl Jensen led the investigation with troopers from New Lebanon.
A public card party is set for Friday at 7 30 p.m. at St Luke's Episcopal Church in Mechanicville inviting community members to attend for an evening of games and socializing.
State Police report a one car crash on Route 2 in Grafton left Susan Walker 19 of Rutland and Charles Osgood of Bennington injured and taken to Samaritan Hospital. Walker received tickets for driving without a license and imprudent speed while Osgood was cited for allowing an unlicensed driver to operate his car.
Mechanicville's Story Book Parade drew about 50 children from Pre School to fifth grade, up from 20 last year, marching from the library on Main Street to Talmadge Park led by Jennifer Kerr. Judges from Friends of the Library and the city youth commission awarded prizes for best characters, costumes, and originality with many celebratory placements across grade levels.
