Chinese Say Jap Fleet Commander Koga Killed in Pacific War
The Chinese Central News Agency reported Adm Mineich Koga successor to the late Adm Isoroku Yamamoto was killed last month in an Allied bombing raid in the New Ireland New Britain area north of New Guinea. It notes Koga died aboard his flagship during the attack and places his death in July in the Duke of York Islands region. The report recounts Japanese naval leadership and battles in the Southwest and South Pacific theater, including actions near the Northern Solomons and the Burn islands as U.S. air and naval forces pressed the MacArthur offensive.
