JFK would run Viet War like LBJ says Salinger
White House press secretary Pierre Salinger said Kennedy would likely have expanded the Vietnam conflict similar to Lyndon B. Johnson had he lived. He noted Kennedy opposed a major land war in Asia in 1963 but warned we cannot project his actions after North Vietnam escalation. Salinger cited growth of U S involvement from 600 to 22 000 troops by 1963 year end and defended Kennedy’s record on Rusk replacement questions.
