Huge postwar building boom eyed for decade of growth
A War-near construction surge is predicted as materials release and housing rehab accelerate. Holden of W Dodge Corp forecasts 12.685 billion dollars in ten years for the United States with 3.128 billion annually for residential work east of the Rockies. Warnecke survey foresees 450 thousand homes next year, rising to 1 million in year three, with lumber needs and tile costs soaring. Labor shortages and apprenticeship cuts may temper peacetime volumes, while Bureau of Labor Statistics notes sufficient skilled help for a 3.756 billion dollar 1940-cost program.

Handicapped Men to Drive Cars in Texas
Homer Garrison of the Department of Public Safety announces Texas will license handicapped service members who lost limbs if medical and driving aids make them competent. Tests at McCloskey General Hospital, in cooperation with the Army, show improvements in artificial limbs and car attachments enabling driving safety for those missing legs or an arm. The Legislature left licensing discretion to the Safety Department, and few if any GIs will be denied licenses.
