Shorter Bayonet Issued to American Combat Units
American combat units on all battlefronts receive a shorter lighter bayonet from the Ordnance Department. The blade is shortened from 16 to 10 inches, weight reduced, and handling improved. It serves as a trench knife and aids jungle fighters, paratroops, and airborne infantry. Japs still use a flat razor bayonet. British and Russian blades differ, with the British adopting a seven inch triangular blade and the Russians maintaining a triangular non scabbard model.
