Feed Grain Shortage Hits State
Livestock growers in the Troy area face a deficit of home grown and imported feed grains for 1943 44. The shortage is statewide with a plan to allocate feed by manufacturers and retailers to direct scarce grain to milk and eggs first. H E Babcock, chairman of the State Emergency Food Commission, warned that reliance on corn from the belt may not fully close the gap due to price ceilings and hog subsidy floors. Government policy may limit end by price and floor supports. however 2 5 million bushels from the Great Lakes region will come as Canadian wheat, barley and oats, plus 400 000 tons of spring grains via trail by mid November.
