Port of Stettin Falls Under Polish Rule After War
Polish administration takes control of Szczecin and surrounding areas on the Oder, aiming to rebuild the port as Poland's overseas trade hub. Rail lines and land borders are gradually taken over by Aug 15, with hundreds of Germans applying to move west while many remain. Destruction from air raids and ground fighting leaves the city graveyard quiet and isolated from its German hinterland.

Textile wartime supply outlook for civilian clothing
Experts forecast September releases of heavy cotton weaves and wool fabrics to boost civilian garments while war demands keep some shortages. Wool and worsted output should rise this fall, with topcoats and dresses reaching retailers by autumn and daily wear improving by year end. Rayon and cotton supplies remain tight and depend on war duration, with half prewar levels and continued shortages into next year.
