Truman Signs Three Major Postwar Economic Measures
President Truman approved three key acts to aid postwar reconstruction and global trade. The Bretton Woods package establishes an international bank and stabilization fund to bolster exchange rates, while expanding the export import bank’s lending authority to back European reconstruction. The United Nations food program and a private trading measure also move forward, reflecting a broader push to stabilize economies and spur international investment through 65 percent fund ratification and early operating timelines.
