Hungary May Quit With Italy Inl Analysis
London observers say Hungary will surrender with Italy or soon after and watch Budapest for signs that anti Nazi Socialist Charles Peyer may seize the premiership. Peyer’s underground ties with British labor leaders aim to secure good postwar relations if Miklos Horthy’s government falls. Churchill’s direct offer seems possible if Benes Masaryk line stays quiet. Horthy, fence-sitting but tilting to the Allies, rebuked Hitler by blocking troop garrisons in Czecho Slovakia and Yugoslavia as Pestihirlad openly criticizes Nazis.
