War Time Budget Forecast 89 Billion For This Year
Washington budget director Harelh D Smith projected war costs at 89 billion dollars for the new fiscal year starting July 1, estimating higher receipts and a large deficit. He warned war outlays could rise if Europe resistance lasts longer, though some spending may curb if victory comes sooner. The plan factors in direct taxes, customs, and miscellaneous receipts with total outlays near 104 billion and a deficit around 52.7 billion, while debt would rise to about 251.3 billion by year end.
